DIRECT SERVICE

The WCS Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability (CDLRE) is a partnership between WCS, Legal Action of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), and the City of Milwaukee. CDLRE works with low-income Milwaukee County residents to obtain a valid driver's license by:

   • Resolving active suspensions and/or revocations
     against current Wisconsin driver’s licenses

                           -OR-

   • Resolving active suspensions and/or revocations
against one’s ability to obtain a Wisconsin
driver’s license

Ongoing services include direct case management and legal services as well as community advice events.

HOW THE PARTNERSHIP HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE

CDLRE works with Milwaukee County residents who are experiencing the residual effects of generational poverty and joblessness. Since the program began, the program has helped thousands of residents regain their driving privileges. As a result, CDLRE has removed an overwhelming barrier to their ability to secure meaningful, family-sustaining employment. Having a driver’s license has given these individuals (and their families) greater access to education and entrepreneurship, and the opportunity to increase their level of participation in their community. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee have called CDLRE “one of the most promising workforce initiatives in Milwaukee.” [2017 Research Brief on ETI Driver's License Studies John Pawasarat, Lois M. Quinn, UW– Milwaukee]

CDLRE was honored to be one of three programs across the country that was recognized by Mutual of America (MOA) with a 2019 Community Partnership Award. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE!
