AODA Counselor

Duties
SUMMARY: This position provides ongoing case management, individual and group counseling, and supervision of adult clients within a residential, correctional, halfway house setting. The position oversees all aspects of an assigned caseload of individual clients throughout their participation in a residential program. DUTIES: " Conduct all AODA related functions of Intake/Assessment/Education/Individual & Group Counseling/Referral/Treatment Planning; Develop treatment plans and monitor progress towards completion of goals; Maintain all client records as required by the residential program, funding sources, and other licensing bodies when applicable. " Attend staff meetings to review client progress; Hold clients accountable for all program rules and expectations. Document violations and impose appropriate sanctions. " Provide crisis intervention as needed; Maintain positive working relationships with other staff, corrections personnel, and other community representatives. " Conduct specific treatment approaches such as CGIP, anger management, etc to satisfy contractual requirements; Other duties as directed to carry out the responsibilities of the position. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES: This person must have good counseling skills and knowledge related to AODA. Additional knowledge of mental illness, current DSM, and pharmacology is preferred. An ability to communicate effectively and in a positive manner with staff and clients. An ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations. Sensitivity toward cultural, ethnic and disability issues. Good organizational and computer skills. Effective use of time and ability to assist clients with various activities.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: BA degree in the social services is preferred. Requires minimum of SAC - IT AODA certification. Minimum of 1year experience providing dual diagnosis services (AODA, Mental Health) to correctional clients. Must train to become certified in CPR, First Aid, Fire Safety, Universal Precautions, and other certifications as required by funding source, and/or licensing. The ability to pass Caregiver and Background checks prior to hire. Must have a valid driver license, automobile and insurance sufficient to meet agency requirements. Must clear a pre-employment health screening. HOURS: 8am - 4pm (Required - one evening a week)
